Dr Jeffrey Dorfman

Jeff trained as an immunologist with Prof David Raulet at the University of California, Berkeley, studying target recognition by natural killer cells. Since that time, he has studied T cell receptor signalling, malaria immunology and tetanus toxoid immunisation coverage and has worked at the US NIH, the University of Oxford and at the KEMRI Wellcome Trust labs in Kilifi, Kenya. In Cape Town, Jeff focused upon neutralising antibody responses to HIV-1 and upon the early phylogeny of HIV-1. This has expanded into studying compartmentalisation of HIV-1 populations between the blood circulation and the male genital tract. Since 2017, he has been working at the RMPRU, a research unit at Wits, studying immunity to vaccine preventable diseases and to respiratory syncytial virus and cytomegalovirus.
