Dr Bridgette Cumming

Dr Bridgette Cumming is a Research Associate in Dr Adrie Steyn’s research team at the Africa Health Research Institute. Bridgette initially trained in Chemistry and Pharmacology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. After working in chemical and biotechnology industry involving malaria diagnostics, Bridgette did her PhD in Malaria Biochemistry at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg. She joined Adrie Steyn’s research team at the KwaZulu-Natal Research Institute for Tuberculosis and HIV in Durban in 2012 to investigate virulence pathways and redox homeostasis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Currently, her studies focus on how Mycobacterium tuberculosis modulates the bioenergetic metabolism of the host to establish infection.
