I am a PhD student working at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) in KZN, South Africa. I joined Alasdair Leslie’s lab in 2014 investigating the involvement of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) in TB infection. Through collaborative efforts with local surgeons, we have been able to study ILCs directly in freshly resected human lung tissues. Using techniques such as flow cytometry, multiplexed fluorescent immunohistology and RNA-sequencing, and teaming up with a group of TB mouse experts, we have begun to elucidate previously unknown roles for ILCs in the immune response to Mtb.
